Delivering Community Energy
Community Energy has a key part to play by enabling distributed sustainable energy, to benefit local residents and enhance grid flexibility.
Plugyy supports community energy projects across the UK - from initial feasibility studies through to building and operating renewable power projects.

Delivering Community Energy
We believe community energy has significant opportunities for expansion. With the right support and expertise, generation capacity could rapidly increase, enabling more profits into energy transition initiatives and local communities.
We work with community energy groups to support their solar projects at all stages.
-
We act as a technical/commercial advisor at all stages of the project - from the initial feasibility to establish the technical and commercial viability, though the detailed development of the project, supporting the design, grid applications, technical surveys, assessing EPC tenders etc.
-
For projects that are more advanced we act as the EPC to deliver and construct a turn-key solar project.
The UK government’ has set out a vision for scaling up local energy, with 8 GWh of shared community-owned energy capacity targeted by 2030.
Large-scale generation projects play a key role in decarbonisation. However, community energy projects offer a complementary, people-centred approach that promotes local investment in renewables whilst building trust and ensuring the benefits of clean energy are felt locally. They help to reduce opposition to new developments and ensuring that the energy transition and net zero is seen as fair and inclusive.
These projects also play an important role in increasing the levels of local distributed generation to reduce grid impacts and enhance grid flexibility.
With a strong government policy framework and targeted investment, community energy could grow significantly, enabling cost-effective, publicly supported local renewable energy.

Community Energy
A Powerful Force

Creating Value for Communities
Locally owned projects help keep wealth within the communities, create jobs and can provide direct savings and benefits through cooperative funding schemes.
Community-led energy initiatives can help local authorities deliver on climate action plans by enabling scalable, locally focused projects and help build trust and involve residents in shaping local energy decisions.
Throughout the UK, community energy initiatives are already strengthening communities and helping to create stronger local economies. Community-owned energy projects reinvest profits locally, create jobs that also support local businesses and help keep wealth within the community.
Giving people a role in decision-making provides sense of ownership and responsibility, strengthening trust and engagement in wider sustainability initiatives.
Participation in local energy initiatives fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility, strengthening trust and engagement in wider sustainability initiatives. and ensures that people feel included in the transition to net zero.
